MJ's Travel Stories

I share my most entertaining, inspiring and quite frankly ridiculous experiences I've had during my travel adventures. From being scammed by local mafia in Cambodia to witnessing burning bodies on the River Ganges in India, to surviving 5 weeks walking the Camino de Santiago with barely any money. My travel stories may sound too unbelievable to be true, but I can assure you they are!

Hey Reader! Having discussed how easy (or difficult) it is to live abroad in my last email, I wanted to share with you my experience of living in Madrid as an English teacher for a year. Several years ago I landed an English teaching job in the Spanish capital purely by chance. Although the pay wasn’t great and I was working very long hours, I was given free accommodation and was living in one of the most vibrant capital cities in Europe. Hey Reader! Have you ever lived abroad before or is it something you’re seriously considering? During these uncertain times, more and more people are choosing to up sticks and live abroad. Back in 2022 an estimated 471,000 Brits emigrated to other countries, and in 2023 that number rose to 508,000 (according to the Office of National Statistics). Although Brexit has made emigrating to popular European countries such as Spain a more complicated issue (you need to have a considerable income), a...

Hey there Reader! Have you ever regretted a decision while travelling or after a vacation? I had a big regret about my recent Xmas vacation to Agadir, Morocco. Hey there Reader, Do you have plans this year to visit a new city (or country) that you’ve never been to before? One of my favourite aspects of travel is discovering a completely new city and its local culture. But knowing where to go and what to see can be complicated and overwhelming. That’s why I always book a walking tour on my first day in a new city. Walking tours are a perfect way to see the main tourist attractions and learn all about the city’s history from an expert guide in an hour...
